Think Thursday: Small Acts Transform The World!

Yesterday was Earth Day which is where events worldwide are held to demonstrate support for environmental protection. It doesn’t have to be a one day event, it can be Earth Day everyday. Let’s continue to protect the earth by considering small changes in our lives that can make a difference such as donating, reusing and recycling items before throwing them away, by closing water taps while brushing your teeth, turning off the lights when not in use and walking, cycling, car pooling or using public transportation. It’s by small and simple things that great things happen. Every small but caring act that a person can accomplish makes an impact which is a piece of the puzzle to transform the world. Together, we can make a difference!

Makeup Bag Makeover!

Ever wonder how long you should keep some of your essential beauty products before tossing them? Well if it’s been a while since you cleaned your makeup bag, you might want to consider the following…

Eyeshadows are the perfect beauty essential item to make eyes pop however they do have an expiry date of 18 months so make sure you toss it a year and a half later in order to avoid eye infections. Tip: Write the expiry date at the back of your eyeshadow to keep track of when to toss it.

Lipsticks can make any pout stand out however they should be tossed after 2 years in order to avoid the goopy lip look. Tip: Refrigerate the lipstick tube to keep it fresh longer.

Makeup Brushes are essential tools to have for easy makeup application and thankfully they have a lifetime shelf life if taken care of properly. Tip: Wash brushes every week in order to avoid bacteria buildup and invest in a great quality set.

Liquid foundations are great to create an even, uniform colour to the complexion however it should be tossed after one year‘s use. Tip: If it looks streaky and uneven then it’s time for it to go.

I hope you find these tips helpful. Feel free to share your beauty tips, I’d love to hear them.

A perfect gentleman’s closet

As you may already know, I have a thing for closets. I love organizing them, color coordinating the items in them, creating a harmonious flow throughout the wardrobe and personalizing the overall look to make it easy to explore.

A man’s wardrobe should be a reflection of his style and his art of manliness. One that can keep his closet pristine and well organized is a major ➕PLUS➕in my books. Here are few closet ideas that may help in creating the perfect gentleman’s closet.

DIY: Compact Quick Fix!

Every ‘beauty’ problem has a solution…Yes! Even when you drop your compact and see the powder shatter into a thousand pieces. 😢 The beautydepartment.com shows us exactly what to do…

First of all, you will need:
✔️70% alcohol (more effective than rubbing alcohol),
✔️plastic wrap,
✔️synthetic eyeliner brush,

Now here’s the magic:
1⃣ Tightly wrap the compact with plastic wrap.
2⃣ Crush the entire pan of shadow (into loose powder) with the spatula.
3⃣ Remove the wrap and add between 8-12 droppers full of alcohol.
4⃣ Even out the pliable powder smoothly with the spatula.
5⃣ Perfect the edges with the eyeliner brush.
6⃣ Let it dry for a few hours.
7⃣ Use a Q-tip to clean up the perimeter.

TAH-DAH! No more tears! A brand new compact! 👍

DIY: Shoe Closet!

I must confess…I LOVE shoes! 😍
Shoe-a-holic…Me!?….ummm maybe!? 👠
Recently I took on a project of building my shoe closet. It was really simple…I bought 2 Billy bookcases from IKEA for $49 (sale price; regular price:$69) and it took me less than 2 hours to put them both up. Everything I needed came with the package besides a hammer (tip: you can use the bottom of a shoe, preferably an old pair). 😝
I followed the instructions included in the box and Tah-Dah!!!
My very own Shoe Closet!!!

I particularly love the first one (It’s Mariah Carey’s shoe closet!).
