November’s here already! Although this means that it’s almost hibernation time for me (since I am allergic to cold weather), there are still some great things happening this month that will
force get me out of the house…
1- Beyond The Lights (premieres November 14th). This film is about a music superstar, Noni (played by Gugu Mbatha-Raw), who struggles with the pressures of fame and success to the point where she contemplates suicide…I’m hoping this movie can shed some light on this issue and help those with suicidal thoughts to speak up and reach out.
2- Mocking jay – Part 1 (premieres November 21st). If you’re a Hunger Games fan like me then you have been anxiously awaiting the last (well part 1 of 2) of this trilogy. Can’t wait! “May the odds be ever in your favour.”
I’m loving the November covers this year…
1- Zoe Saldana, soon to be mom of twins, graces the cover of Elle (US) and looks amazing while doing so.
2- I am loving Anne Hathaway‘s lip colour choice on the cover of Elle (UK). That dark lip is perfect for Fall.
3- Gugu Mbatha-Raw covers Elle magazine’s Women In Hollywood issue and she is simply flawless with her bold lip and hair slicked back. Love the ring and ear jewelry too!
4- Adriana Lima covers VOGUE PARIS this month in this gorgeous bejewelled headpiece. I’m loving the smokey-all-over-face makeup too. It really makes her eyes pop!
5- You know I love me some Queen Latifah. She’s covering this month’s Essence issue and looks fearless in this gorgeous dress.
1- Catch Usher on his UR Experience tour featuring August Alsina. This is sure to be an entertaining ‘experience’ filled with hot choreography and great vocals. I would love to see another one of his shows, he does not disappoint.
2- Stevie Wonder is also headlining his Songs in the Key of Life Performance Tour across North America this month. I’m sure this will be an amazing show as well. He is a legend!
Also, don’t forget to turn your clocks back this Sunday. It’s almost time for us to Fall Back! (I love having the opportunity to sleep an extra hour!)
Last but not least, let us remember and honour our heroes on 11.11.14 “Remembrance Day”. Lest we forget!
Last night, Fashion Rocks took place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, NY to celebrate two of culture’s biggest influences: music and fashion. Many fashion trends are inspired by music so it’s only right to showcase the powerful relationship between the two. Hosted by Ryan Seacrest, this event featured performances by Jennifer Hudson, JLo, Magic!, Nico & Vinz, Usher among others while showcasing Macy’s fall trends (available here).
Check out some of the red carpet looks:
Miranda Lambert rocked this black fitted pantsuit featuring leather panels down the legs and on the blazer lapels. She paired her outfit perfectly with a silver diamanté bra underneath (that bra is everything!).

You fix your makeup just so
Guess you don’t know that you’re beautiful
Try on every dress that you own
You were fine in my eyes a half hour ago
If your mirror won’t
Make it any clearer I’ll
Be the one to let you know
Out of all of the girls
You’re my one and only girl
Ain’t nobody in the world tonight
All of the stars
You make them shine like they were ours
Ain’t nobody in he world
But you…and I
Such profound words from John Legend’s latest single You & I (Nobody In The World) from his album ‘Love In The Future’.
When I first heard this song, I immediately fell in love with the powerful lyrics but it was the music video that really did it for me (icing on the cake for sure!). I couldn’t help but get teary while watching everyday women of all colours, shapes and sizes looking themselves in the mirror and reflecting on their body image and how they view themselves daily. It was such a powerful yet touching look of today’s reality and better yet, a positive message for all daughters, sisters, mothers and wives out there. It was more than what I envisioned.
Play this song for yourself today. Make the lyrics about you. You don’t need makeup to validate your beauty…You don’t need a mirror to determine your allure…Know that you are beautiful!
Press play (if you haven’t already)!
Let’s go back in time and remember the best moments of 1988!!!
Fashion trends back then: Acid washed jeans and denim jackets.
CDs became more popular than vinyl records for the first time.
3 of my fave tracks that year:
And last but not least, one of the best movies of all time…None other than Coming to America!
