There were some great speakers such as Audrey Davis-Savisothy, Nerissa Irving and Stacey McKenzie, for which I had the opportunity to interview (coming soon) and sooo many other wonderful people, talented artists, designers and entrepreneurs. Natural Hair Congress Canada!

This Saturday, June 27th 2015, the Loft Hotel will be hosting the 1st ever Natural Hair Congress Canada (NHCC) in Montreal (314 Sherbrooke East to be exact) exclusively dedicated to the beauty & care of curly, kinky, wavy or locked hair. Presented by the Inhairitance salon boutique, this all-day event features speakers and panelists such as Stacey McKenzie (top model, judge on Canada’s Next Top Model as well as Founder of Walk This Way Workshops INC), Audrey Sivasothy (author of The Science of Black Hair), Nerissa Irving (lecturer and editor of Kamoy Magazine) and Marième Ndiaye (spokesperson and singer)…need I say more?!…(But I will)…

At NHCC, you will have access to a great selection of natural hair and body products, get priceless advice and feedback on personal hair challenges (we all know about that right?!), take part of the discussion with the panelist on burning issues, share experiences and hair stories and dwell in the oasis of wellbeing. Also, you will not want to miss the hairstyling competition & hair show; where 5 Canadian specialized stylists in naturally curly hair compete for 1st place in a live stage competition and where Natural Hair experts across Canada show off their talents & skills, signature styles and wedding inspirations. All of this followed by mixing and mingling with sounds presented by an all-women collective Amazon DJ Crew. So, I can go on and on about this event, but truth is, you need to be there. Everyone is welcome!

Here’s the showdown:

9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m – Conferences (2) / Workshops (6) / Panels (2)

8:00 p.m – Live Hairstyling Competition

9:00 p.m – Inhairitance Hair Show / After-Party

Click here for more information about NHCC and get your tickets here.

Complete Package $65 / Conferences $45 / Hair Show $25

“Only a few specialists are trained to cut and care for curly textured hair. Each curl has its size and personality. We hope through this conference to offer an exchange platform on aesthetics but also on socio-political aspect of wearing our naturally curly and kinky hair” explains Abisara Machold, owner of Inhairitance and founder of the Natural Hair Congress Canada.

You really don’t want to miss this event. This is the First congress exclusively dedicated to the curly hair movement in Canada. I hope to see you there!

I was happy to attend the RSVP Presents A Culture Chic Affair this past weekend and I had such a fabulous time meeting some amazingly talented people from artists to fashion designers to makeup artists to entrepreneurs. It was such an enriching experience filled with Afro-Caribbean culture, live entertainment, creative artisans and designers. In fact, there were so many great moments (that I was able to capture on camera), it’s only right that I share them with you. Experience a Culture Chic Affair through my eyes and camera lens. Enjoy!

Hairspiration: Bangs!

One of my favourite hairstyles to rock is bangs! When I get freshly cut bangs, I feel like a completely different person. A few snips can give you a whole new look, whether straight, long, short, wavy or side-swept. It’s definitely a quick and easy way to change your look without having to snip much off. You don’t have to be on “team big forehead” to rock bangs either, it looks great on most face shapes. See for yourself…here are some of my hairspiration boards featuring bangs!

(All images via Pinterest)

Not sure about putting scissors to your hair? You may want to consider bang extensions. Clip-in bangs are the perfect way to get the look or try it out without the commitment.

What’s your favourite hairstyle?

Happy Wednesday! ❤️️️️️️️xo

Hairspiration: The Top Knot!

2015/01/img_4378.jpg
Last year, I cut my hair bob length and I immediately fell in love with my new look…That is, until I realized I couldn’t rock one of my favourite hairstyles anymore…the top knot. I may have even shed a tear that day. So ever since then, I’ve been determined to let my hair grow to top knot length. I’m very happy to say that the time has now come for me to work my up-do and I’m super ecstatic. I love that top knots can be messy or precise (I live for a fab sock bun look!) and can complement any outfit.
What kept me inspired throughout my hair growth journey were some of my favourite top knot hairspiration looks that I referred to every time I thought of putting scissors through my hair.
Need some hairspiration? Check out these bomb top knots.

I’m Loving: Fishtail Braid!

Lately, I’ve been thinking about wanting to grow my hair long enough to do a beautiful ponytail or side fishtail braid. I just love the simple yet intricate details of the overall look. It’s classy, fresh and even goddess-like.
See for yourself…

I enjoy it’s versatility. This hairstyle can be worn in a messy, relaxed or a more formal way. If you prefer a thicker fishtail, you can simply add hair clips or extensions to get a more fulsome look (I’m honestly thinking about this option right now).

Will you be rocking this hairstyle this season?

OWN’s Love In The City!

20140425-081214.jpg
Since it’s premiere earlier this month, I have been watching and loving Oprah Winfrey Network’s newest docu-series, “Love In The City”, starring Kiyah Wright (celebrity hair stylist and the link who brought the four friends together), Bershan Shaw (founder of social networking site URAWARRIOR), Chenoa Maxwell (actress and aspiring photographer) and Tiffany Jones (founder of Pink Chose Me Foundation).

The show follows the four women as they juggle their professional and personal lives in the fast paced flow of New York City (particularly NYC’s legendary Harlem neighbourhood). The quartet have known each other for more than ten years and are constant sources of inspiration, support, competition and companionship to one another through life’s successes and setbacks.

20140425-090323.jpg
Tiffany and Bershan are both breast cancer survivors dedicating their lives in sharing their stories of survival to spread awareness and provide hope to other women.

Brownie points to OWN for bringing us a new series that displays more sisterly love than hyped-up drama.

Meet the cast:

Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show Recap!

Last night, one of the biggest and most anticipated fashion shows aired on television and some of the most “fierce” angels took the catwalk strutting an array of colours, crystals, feathers, over the top costumes and of course “angel wings”.

*Side note: Although I may not have the body of a supermodel, I am learning to love my curves…one body part at a time (work in progress). That is why I was able to watch this show with ease (somewhat) and appreciation of what God has blessed me with. #curvyisthenewskinny #backtothispost

Candice Swanepoel opened the show modelling this year’s $10 million dollar fantasy bra, the most expensive one yet.

Do these famous fantasy bras ever get sold? Would you buy it if you could?

Bedecked in lingerie, Victoria’s Secret angels paraded on stage showcasing different themes.

The show kicked off with “British Invasion”:
