I wanted to kick off Black History Month with a powerful quote from Ruby Bridges, the first African American child to desegregate an all-white elementary school in New Orleans on November 14, 1960. Six-year-old Ruby persisted in attending William Frantz Elementary School by marching alongside a team of U.S. Marshals amidst the hatred, threats and daily harassment. She may not have known then nor would she come to realize it for many years but her bravery and courage that she demonstrated in the fall of 1960 would forever change lives and shape a nation.
Don’t follow the path. Go where there is no path and start a trail. -Ruby Bridges
Thank you Ruby for your inspiring strength, resilience and fateful walk to school!
I’m excited for the month of February because it means we are closer to Spring and the Lord knows I’m allergic to winter (true story) lol. Other things I’m looking forward to this month…
1-NBA All-Star Weekend which will be in New York this year the weekend of Feb 13-15 featuring the All-Star Celebrity game, Rising Star Challenge, Skills Challenge, Slam Dunk Competition and the (East vs. West) NBA All-Star Game.
2-Fifty Shades of Grey which is a film based on the 2011 erotic roman novel by British author E. L. James about the deepening relationship between Christian Grey, a young entrepreneur, and Anastasia Steele, a Literature student and it featuring lots of BDSM.
3-Winterlude is about the only winter event that will make me come out of hibernation mode to enjoy chocolate hazelnut beaver tails and hot cocoa with marshmallows while exploring art made of ice. Let me tell you these ice sculptures are everything. If you’ve never experienced it, make sure to add it to your bucket list. It’s such a magical experience!
4-Valentine’s Day! Only because I love to celebrate love however I do believe that love should be celebrated everyday not just on this uber commercialized day.
5-As always, I look forward to some great fashion magazine covers. Jennifer Aniston covers this month’s InStyle magazine. Jourdan Dunn looks flawless on the cover of Vogue (UK). Rosie Huntington-Whitely models some new Spring trends in Elle (UK) magazine. Taylor Swift shares her style secrets in People Style Watch magazine.
What are you looking forward to this month?
I hope you had a wonderful Valentine’s day and that your day was filled with lots of joy, love and great memories.
For me, well this happened…
I enjoyed my lasagna from Johnny Farina’s restaurant for lunch. I was treated to some yummy Valentine goodies and treats (Thank you KatieCakeBake@gmail.com) and had some great quality time with loved ones.
We also celebrated my mom’s birthday (officially today) with a wonderful dinner and movie.
For me, V-day is all about spreading the love to those you care about and sharing it with those who need it most.
Happy Love Month!

3⃣Learn more about Black History Month.
Viola Desmond – A black business woman who faced segregation in the 1940s when she entered a theatre and took a seat on the main floor (reserved for white viewers only) and refused to go to the balcony unaware that tickets sold to African Canadians were for balcony only.
