Earlier this week, I shared Part 1 of Africa Fashion Week Montreal (AFWMTL), an innovative annual event which aims to celebrate African and Caribbean culture by showcasing creative designs of renowned and emerging artists. Without further ado, here is part 2 of last weekend’s event.
Asikere Afana specializes in sensual blends of African-inspired, timeless trends & curated textiles. Made in Ghana with 100% cotton and fair trade.
Cocody Collections specializes in African print fabrics and vibrant colours with a modern minimalist chic and simple yet notorious (in its originality) style.
Elle Sublime represents strong yet delicate, audacious and even eccentric women of all generations who value their femininity, specializing in trendy handmade custom jewelry.
Korto Momolu celebrates the essence of Africa through the use of traditional, luxury fabrics; skins; mixed prints on fashion forward women’s wear and accessories. Her signature designs also appeared on the 5th season of Bravo TV’s hit show, Project Runway; where she was placed 1st runner up. She is definitely a top designer to watch!
Again a HUGE thank you to Kama St-Juste and her leading team Médina Diabagate, Béatrice Clervoix and Liette Clervoix for bringing AFWMTL to Montreal.
I truly hope this entices you to be a part of AFWMTL next year. I know I will be (God willing!).

Mark your calendars everyone…Africa Fashion Week is coming to Montreal for the very first time this year! You may want to clear your schedules for this, particularly Friday, June 12th and Saturday, June 13th as of 7pm when this event will take place at Théâtre Paradoxe on 5959 Monk Blvd, Montreal. Africa Fashion Week Montreal (AFWMTL) will certainly prove to be an event you won’t want to miss.
This unique yet flamboyant annual event aims to celebrate African and Caribbean culture through exceptional talents of designers and architects who will be showcasing their creative looks. The fashion industry is so ready for this new era of colourful patterns, prints and African fabrics and it has been for the past few years. See for yourself…
AFWMTL will be captured on The Nikki Clarke Show in Ontario and will be live on the web. It is presented by a fabulous (leading) team of diverse women who share prowess in fashion, coordination, direction and design. Kama St-Juste leads this project alongside Béatrice Clervoix, Liette Clervoix et Médina Diabagate in an effort to show Montreal as a prenominate city where fashion resides. This event will feature 8 renowned and emerging designers such as Asikere Afana, Tufafi Fashion and Korto Momolu to name a few. Check out some of their fabulous collections…

Happy Tuesday! ❤️xo
I’m excited for the month of February because it means we are closer to Spring and the Lord knows I’m allergic to winter (true story) lol. Other things I’m looking forward to this month…
1-NBA All-Star Weekend which will be in New York this year the weekend of Feb 13-15 featuring the All-Star Celebrity game, Rising Star Challenge, Skills Challenge, Slam Dunk Competition and the (East vs. West) NBA All-Star Game.
2-Fifty Shades of Grey which is a film based on the 2011 erotic roman novel by British author E. L. James about the deepening relationship between Christian Grey, a young entrepreneur, and Anastasia Steele, a Literature student and it featuring lots of BDSM.
3-Winterlude is about the only winter event that will make me come out of hibernation mode to enjoy chocolate hazelnut beaver tails and hot cocoa with marshmallows while exploring art made of ice. Let me tell you these ice sculptures are everything. If you’ve never experienced it, make sure to add it to your bucket list. It’s such a magical experience!
4-Valentine’s Day! Only because I love to celebrate love however I do believe that love should be celebrated everyday not just on this uber commercialized day.
5-As always, I look forward to some great fashion magazine covers. Jennifer Aniston covers this month’s InStyle magazine. Jourdan Dunn looks flawless on the cover of Vogue (UK). Rosie Huntington-Whitely models some new Spring trends in Elle (UK) magazine. Taylor Swift shares her style secrets in People Style Watch magazine.
What are you looking forward to this month?
August is my favourite month of the year. Not only because I love mid-summer weather but also for the simple reason that I love celebrating special events like birthdays…wink wink (especially today, Happy Birthday Moon!). It’s the perfect time to reflect and be thankful for everything that God has done and to look forward to the great promises that He has planned. So to all of my Leos and Virgos…Happy Birthday!
August bring more great festivals and events:
▫️Festival of India (Aug 9-11) – Music, dance, henna, yoga and cooking at Marion Dewar Plaza.
▫️Les Grands Feux (Aug 10-24) – 5 nights of international musical firework displays celebrating Denmark, Philippines, U.K., U.A.E. and finale night for only $12.
▫️Greek Fest (Aug 15-25) – Food, language lessons and live music.
▫️South Asian Fest (Aug 16-17) – Midway rides, cuisine, live performances and Splash! boat cruise.
▫️Run For Women (Aug 24) – 10km, 5km, and 1km run along the water in support of women’s mental health programs at LeBreton Flats.
▫️Hot Air Balloon Festival (Aug 30-Sept 2) – Graffiti contest, amusement park and craft tents. Performance by Sean Paul on Aug 30 ($27).
In Fashion: Actress Zoe Saldana fronts the cover of FASHION Magazine‘s August 2014 issue and looking absolutely stunning in Julien Macdonald. I’m looking forward to her starring role in the Nina Simone biopic.
What are you looking forward to this month?
May is finally here!!!
I hope that calls for warmer weather, birds chirping and flowers blooming. These are all small things that make me grin from ear to ear but there’s much more to be looking forward to this month…
Let’s celebrate our loving mothers (in present or memory), visit our local farmers markets for the freshest fruit & veggies, get active & play in a hope volleyball tournament, enjoy the botanical gardens at the Canadian Tulip Festival and all while wearing our fave spring fashion.
This month, let’s celebrate our Saviour, enjoy quality time with our loved ones and anticipate “Spring” weather (with limited April showers).
