Events: Africa Fashion Week Montreal Presents Afro Fusion 2016!

We are one day away from the fashion event of the year, the second edition of Africa Fashion Week Montreal (AFWMTL)!

AFWMTL is not only a fashion show where designers showcase their artwork and designs, it is a place to express positive energy and to explore the many realms of fashion.

What more can you expect?

A few come back designers such as Eldior Sodeck from New York as well as newcomers such as ‘We are Kings’ collection by King Hector Jr., will be among the talent of AFWMTL. There will also be local designers expressing their artistry and fierce models strutting that catwalk. It will be quite an intimate atmosphere throughout the entire art gallery.

Doors are open at 7:30pm and the Runway show begins at 8:00pm. Come and experience it for yourself! Here is recap 1 and recap 2 from last year’s event to satisfy your fashion cravings in the meantime.

Africa Fashion Week Montreal Recap (Part 2)!

Earlier this week, I shared Part 1 of Africa Fashion Week Montreal (AFWMTL), an innovative annual event which aims to celebrate African and Caribbean culture by showcasing creative designs of renowned and emerging artists. Without further ado, here is part 2 of last weekend’s event.

Asikere Afana

Asikere Afana specializes in sensual blends of African-inspired, timeless trends & curated textiles. Made in Ghana with 100% cotton and fair trade.

Cocody Collections

Cocody Collections specializes in African print fabrics and vibrant colours with a modern minimalist chic and simple yet notorious (in its originality) style.

Elle Sublime

Elle Sublime represents strong yet delicate, audacious and even eccentric women of all generations who value their femininity, specializing in trendy handmade custom jewelry.

Korto Momolu

Korto Momolu celebrates the essence of Africa through the use of traditional, luxury fabrics; skins; mixed prints on fashion forward women’s wear and accessories. Her signature designs also appeared on the 5th season of Bravo TV’s hit show, Project Runway; where she was placed 1st runner up. She is definitely a top designer to watch!

Again a HUGE thank you to Kama St-Juste and her leading team Médina Diabagate, Béatrice Clervoix and Liette Clervoix for bringing AFWMTL to Montreal.

I truly hope this entices you to be a part of AFWMTL next year. I know I will be (God willing!).

RSVP presents A Culture Chic Affair – April 4, 2015! *TICKET GIVEWAY*

Will you be in the Nation’s Capital on Easter Long Weekend? If so, make sure to attend the RSVP presents A Culture Chic Affair on April 4, 2015 at 6pmDelta Ottawa City Centre, 101 Lyon St, Ottawa, Ontario (Canada). This is an event you don’t want to miss so mark your calendars!!!

Culture Chic Affair was designed to promote local businesses in Ottawa, Ontario that cater to African, Caribbean and other major cultures that exist in Canada while also supporting charities to help make the community a better place. This event will be promoted through food, music, fashion and art. It will help support and establish new and existing companies by providing them with the recognition that they deserve.

What to expect:

I had the wonderful opportunity to interview RSVP Events Canada about this upcoming event, inspirations and future projects. Check it out below…

More about this event:
RSVP: This elegant, upscale event will feature 5 to 6 exclusive designers from Ontario. Just to name a few designers lined up, we have Jena & Emilia FashionWidlyne Rose and AMM Line Productions
What inspired you to host such an affair?
RSVP: I* am in the events industry and deal with clients from all sorts of different cultures. Most of these clients want to incorporate culture touches to their events. With no one to really cater to them, it was hard to make this happen. We are constantly digging deep to find local vendors to cater to them. Hence why we decided to create the event to promote and showcase the vendors that I* eventually found out that they actually existed, but did not have the support and recognition.
Why is it important for Canada to host events such as this and for everyone to come out?
RSVP: I* think Canada lacks support in the Culture side of things especially in the Afro/Caribbean area. We have a lot of amazing companies in Ottawa/Ontario and within Canada that are basically unknown. This event will hopefully get them on the map and on the road to success. We urge everyone in the community to come out and support them.
Can you tell me more about RSVP Events Canada, your role and how you got involved?
RSVP: I* Co own RSVP Events. RSVP Events is Ottawa’s top “one of a kind” certified wedding, corporate and specialty event planning firm. We specialize in creating unique and creative events starting with your vision, expectations and style. Like most event planning companies we stand by our professionalism and attention to detail. Our mission is to alleviate as much stress as possible while designing and developing lasting memories and catering to our clients’ needs so that they can actually enjoy the event. I* created this event with my lovely team (a dream team of 10 amazing girls) and we are excited to see it come to life.
What other events can we expect from RSVP Events Canada?

Haiti Cherie!

It was only 4 years ago that Haiti was hit with a catastrophic magnitude 7.0 Mw earthquake (Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at 16:53 local time). Major damage was caused in Port-au-Prince, Jacmel and other settlements in the region including notable landmark buildings like the Presidential Palace, the National Assembly building and the Port-au-Prince Cathedral.

Haiti is the first independent nation to gain independence in 1804. It’s motto on the traditional coat of arms says it all: “L’union fait la force” (“Union makes strength”).

Although this Caribbean country has been tested, tried and damaged, it will always remain Haiti Cherie: “La Perle des Antilles” (The Pearl of the Antilles), because of its natural beauty.
